April Is Going To Be Busy!
Sorry I've been a slacker blogger. Fae and I just got back from a week in Louisville (her Spring Break), which was both relaxing and stressful, at the same time. It was great to see my dad and lots of our friends there, though. Plus Fae got to guest-referee a DCRG bout (her old roller derby league), which was really fun. There are many things I really miss about Louisville, so it was nice to have almost a week there to reconnect and revisit.
Anyways, now that I'm back, I'm trying to map out my next month or so. The first thing I'm prepping for is coming up fast, this Saturday, actually: Tulane's 3rd Annual Crawfest Music Festival and Crawfish Boil. It's the first year they are including arts/crafts vendors, so I'm honored to have been chosen to be one of them. My sister Craft Mafiosa, Rachelle, of greenKangaroo.com, will also be there. It runs from 11am to 9pm (though the crafts area will only be open til 6:30pm) and will be located on the Tulane University Lavin-Bernick Center Quad, which is the main quad. (The crafts area will be on the end closer to the library, FYI.) It's free and open to the public; crawfish is free with Tulane ID and can be purchased by those without. I'm looking forward to eating some crawfish and drinking some beer, crossing my fingers that the weather is nice that day. Check the link for the amazing musical lineup, which includes the Dirty Dozen Brass Band, Kermit Ruffins & The Barbeque Swingers, The Radiators, Zydepunks and more!
Once on the other side of Crawfest, I have to kick into high gear focusing on producing some stuff for a few upcoming art shows. The main one is my friend Jen Biniek's Creative Outlet Presents: The 4th Annual Jazz Fest Funky Lil' Art Show. I've been doing this one for as long as she's been hosting it, and it's always a great show. Jen hosts it at her house, turning her living room into an art gallery for the duration of Jazz Fest. Here's the details: It's at 2909 Ponce de Leon Street, and the Opening Party is Friday, April 17th, from 6-9pm. The show is up through the end of Jazz Fest, with an open house each night after the fest from 6-9pm (so that means April 24, 25, 26, 30 and May 1-3). I'm honored to be showing amongst some of my favorite artists and crafters, including Rachelle Matherne (greenKangaroo.com), Chris Cressionnie, Carol Springer, Penny Cash and many others. Come to the opening or stop by sometime during Jazz Fest to pick up some funky, affordable art!
The other art event I'll be contributing to this month is a benefit art auction for NoLa Rising, to be held the first weekend of Jazz Fest, April 24-25th at the Old Mint (400 Esplanade), starting at 9am each day. Entitled NoLa Rising: United Artist Front, the auction is being staged to raise funds for the new non-profit status NoLa Rising's forthcoming New Orleans Mural Arts Program. It's so exciting that after all their hard work, NoLa Rising is finally a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, and can start really expanding the good work that they do in city already with this new mural program, which will start in the Lower 9th Ward and then expand to other areas in the city. Artists, if you are interested in contributing, get your work into them by the 17th of April (details on the NoLa Rising blog), and art collectors and lovers of all kinds, head on down to The Old Mint before you go to Jazz Fest and pick up some great work from artists around the city and country, all for a great cause! I'll post pics whenever I'm done with my piece.
Aside from all this, I'm still trying to make up my mind about a few festivals and markets happening later this month, as well as in May, so more on all that when things are firmed up. But suffice it to say, it's going to be a busy Spring, for sure!

AME Swag!
Only one day to go until the Alternative Media Expo! Very exciting. The swag bags are all stuffed and ready to go to the first 150 paid attendees through the door, and today I'm organizing all my wares, getting everything ready for sale. Yesterday I printed up a bunch of random t's and tanks to clear out all my remaining blank stock - if you've been wanting a Scoot! or Old School Cassette t or tank, you might find something you like. I haven't printed either of those for a long time. They'll all be in the bargain bins on sale ($10 t's/$5 tanks and other assorted stuff). Plus I'll have all my "recession special" mini stencil art for $1-$5 sliding scale, as pictured below. And a bunch of new stencil signs and clocks. So come see me!
